Ramage museum reopens (finally)

The James A Ramage Civil War Museum reopens for 2009, finally, this weekend. We had scheduled reopening for the weekend of February 12, but a record snowfall for that month postponed our opening up for the new year.

In hindsight, that may not have been a totally bad thing, as it gave us some time to finish revamping our exhibits, with new and more detailed information for several displays. Hanging these posters and pictures in the newly-painted plaster walls was not exactly an easy or quick task, so having that extra time really did help us.

We still want to do more - we will be receiving 3 new display cases, hopefully sometime in March, and want to rearrange some of the items in current cases, and add more items to display - but I really like how the museum looks now. Our one room had not seen significant changes since the museum opened in 2005, and now looks much different and, in my opinion, better.  I really like a couple of our new posters, with different backgrounds and more information added to them. The museum's board of directors did a fine job coming up with new ideas.

As President of the museum's board this year, I'm hoping for another successful year. We will not have a lot of events in the first half of the year, but will be busier in the last few months. This year marks the 5th anniversary of the opening of the museum and we plan to show why it has been open so long and why it should stay around a while longer. It's a neat place, with a wonderful location and view.

We are open every Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm and Sunday from Noon until 5:00 p.m. Please see the museum's website linked in the first line of this entry for more information or contact me at captainrlm@live.com.
