With all the attention the Covington Journal was paying to Federal camps in Kentucky in the summer of 1861, I am surprised it did not offer any commentary on the following tidbit it published on August 31.
Several companies of the Kentucky State Guard have gone into camp near Glasgow, Ky., and have named their encampment "Vallandingham" in honor of the Ohio Congressman.
